Tripura News: CM launches Covid special relief package to support needy

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has on Wednesday launched a Covid Special Relief Package Scheme for providing food packets and financial assistance to the poor and needy families in this Covid time.

The scheme aims at distributing food packets and providing financial assistance of Rs. 1000 to seven lakh families each, Deb said.

“The state government stands by the side of poor families through this scheme so that they can manage things smoothly in this Covid crisis,” the Chief Minister said after launching the scheme at Nazrul Kalakshetra in the city on Wednesday.

Deb said, “At present, Tripura is holding the top position in the country in terms of vaccination of 45+ age groups. When the state government is taking various decisions in the fight against Covid 2.0, the opposition parties are trying to misguide the people with other issues—this is very unfortunate.”

While encouraging the people to fight the pandemic positively, the Chief Minister said the state government would always stand by the people. Deb has also expressed gratitude towards different clubs, social organisations and media for coming forward in the fight against Covid.

In his welcome address, West Tripura District Magistrate Ravel Hemendra Kumar said that seven lakh poor families across the state would receive benefits of Chief Minister Covid Special Relief Package Scheme during this Covid crisis for which the state government needs to invest Rs. 80 crore. As many as 1.5 lakh families of West district would be benefitted.

Among them 77,098 Antyodaya, priority group, poor APL families and 13 thousand families of other categories would get the benefits through this scheme in Sadar sub division. The food packets would be distributed through Fair Price shops.

He said that 4,600 families were expected to receive the food packets though 42 ration shops in Sadar sub division on Wednesday itself.

Meanwhile, in the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister had handed over food packets to some beneficiaries.

Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman- Rajib Bhattacharjee and other dignitaries were present in the programme.
