Tripura News: CPM walks out of Assembly, to boycott entire Session
Opposition Party, CPM walked out of the Assembly House after newly-elected Speaker Ratan Chakraborty rejected an adjournment motion moved by CPM MLA Sudhan Das on the law and order situation in the state. Later, leader of the Opposition Manik Sarkar on Friday criticized the government and alleged, ‘total lawlessness’ is prevailing in the state.
Addressing a press conference Sarkar said that the opposition MLAs would boycott the remaining rest of this session, which will end on Monday, in protest against the Speaker's "adamant" behaviour.
“Total lawlessness is prevailing in the state. The opposition leaders are being attacked by the BJP-backed goons,” Sarkar alleged and expressed concern over the role of the Speaker on Friday and opined, “Until the opposition raises the issue of the situation prevailing in the state currently, how can the Chief Minister deliver his speech on that?”
Soon after, Ratan Chakraborty was elected as the Speaker of the House unopposed, CPM MLA Sudhan Das wanted to move an adjournment motion on the "worsening" law and order situation in the state.
Later, rejecting the motion, the Speaker said, "Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will make a statement on the overall law and order situation in the state after routine Question Hour. You can raise the issue after completion of the Question Hour."
"In my view, the state's law and order situation is an important issue which needed to be discussed in the Assembly, but we were restricted from doing that,” adding to this Sarkar opined, “There is no point in sitting in the House if we are not allowed to discuss important issues. That is why we will boycott the entire session.”
