The firearm reportedly used in the murder of Durgaprasanna Dey, also known as Vicky, the secretary of Bharatratna Club in Ushabazar, has been recovered. The firearm along with three live bullets was recovered from the Durgabari crematorium area on the intervening nights between Friday and Saturday.
Notably, miscreants shot dead the secretary of Bharat Ratna Club Durga Prasanna Deb aka Vicky (35) at the Shalbagan area in Agartala on April 30, 2024.
Based on the confession of one of the accused persons in the Vicky murder case, Rakesh Barman during the investigation, Police recovered the firearm from the crematorium area. According to the reports, accused Rakesh Barman guided Police to the site and Police found the weapon. The murder weapon was found wrapped in plastic packet.
Sources claimed, Rakesh Barman told the Police that another accused in the Vicky Murder case, Sunny Saha gave him the firearm to keep with him.
However, Rakesh had to abandon the firearm in the Durgabari crematorium after he was implicated in the Vicky murder case. After abandoning the weapon, Rakesh fled to West Bengal from where he was nabbed.
The police are relieved to have recovered the pistol used in Vicky's murder after more than a month. However, the police are yet to arrest the five main accused persons in the murder case. The court has issued warrants against the five absconding accused persons.
Meantime, Police produced Rakesh Barman before the Court for the third time and the court sent Rakesh to Jail Remand.
