Tripura News: Govt committed to further strengthen PDS in State, says Food minister

The state government has taken steps to ensure that the right amount of quality goods reach consumers through the public distribution system. The Department of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs has also taken various programs to make consumers aware of this, said Food Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury.

Tripura-Legal-Metrology-OfficesThe Minister inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Legal Metrology Office and Laboratory in Santirbazar under the South Tripura district on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Chowdhury said the government's goal is that consumers should not be cheated or deprived under any circumstances. The government has taken a tough stance against dishonest traders and unscrupulous elements. To curb the incidences of unethical practices in the markets, the department conducts raids regularly in various markets. The government is keeping a close watch to ensure that no expired goods are sold in the market.

There are a total of 18 Legal Metrology Offices in the state. Consumers can lodge their complaints about goods at the Legal Metrology Offices. They will also have the opportunity to test the quality of the goods at this office.

Others present at the event included Cooperative Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, MLA Pramod Reang, South Tripura District Collector Dr. Siddhartha Shiv Jaswal, Santirbazar Sub-Divisional Officer Abhedananda Baidya and others.

Santirbazar Municipality Chairperson Swapna Baidya presided over the event. Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department Special Secretary Ravel Hemendra Kumar delivered the welcome address. It is noteworthy that the construction of the Legal Metrology Office in Santirbazar has cost Rs 48 lakh 25 thousand.
