Local inhabitants of Mahadev Tila under Mungiyakami Police Station in Tripura blocked the National Highway on Monday protesting against the alleged demolition of dwellings of some of the inhabitants recently by a Construction Company engaged in broadening the National Highway. The road block agitation started at 8 am on Monday and continued for five hours.
The road blockade on the National Highway caused long snarls of traffic on both sides. Several passenger vehicles and Goods carriers remained stranded on the road for hours.

“Protesting against the demolition and damage of the plantations, we blocked the Assam-Agartala National Highway today”, local indigenous people told the media. Affected villagers also alleged they informed the concerned BDO about their problems, however, no action was taken, so far.
The villagers continued the blockade for 5 hours starting from 8 am today. The blockade threw traffic along the NH out of gear.
Meanwhile, the SDM and SDPO along with concerned officials reached the spot and held talks with the agitators. After a prolonged discussion, the administration assured the agitators that their grievances would be looked after by the authority and ultimately, villagers withdrew the road blockade.
