In an attempt to uplift women’s football in Tripura, the Kalyani Dey Foundation, an Agartala-based non-profit organization, has pledged its support to the state’s female footballers. The foundation engaged in philanthropic activities has taken a step forward to inspire these athletes to reach new heights in the sport.
The foundation made a public announcement of a cash reward of Rs. 2,000on Friday, aimed at the highest goal scorer in the upcoming Women’s Football League. This initiative is expected to foster a competitive spirit among the players and motivate them to perform their best.
Abhishek Dey, the Director of the Kalyani Dey Foundation, has formally communicated this initiative to the Tripura Football Association (TFA). The letter detailing the foundation’s commitment was sent to TFA President Pranab Sarkar, with a copy forwarded to Secretary Amit Chowdhury. The TFA has warmly welcomed this initiative, recognizing it as a significant boost for women’s football in the state.
The Kalyani Dey Foundation was established in memory of the late Kalyani Dey, a distinguished social worker who dedicated her life to the service of the underprivileged. She was also a councilor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation and served as the director of the Bengali daily newspaper, Syandan Patrika, for three decades.
The foundation, in line with Kalyani Dey’s vision, has been relentlessly working towards the welfare of the less fortunate, particularly those in old age homes and orphanages. This time, it has extended its support to women footballers, marking a new chapter in its journey.
Abhishek Dey, expressing the foundation’s commitment, stated, “The Kalyani Dey Foundation is steadfast in its mission to empower women footballers in Tripura and assist them in realizing their full potential. We firmly believe that sports can serve as a potent catalyst for social change. We hope that our initiative will inspire more girls to embrace football and break new grounds in the sport.” This statement underscores the foundation’s belief in the transformative power of sports and its potential to bring about social change.
