Tripura News: Political tension in Rajnagar, BJP Office Vandalized, Set on Fire

Rajnagar in South Tripura District witnessed vandalism and arson on Saturday night following the death of local CPIM leader Badal Shil. Miscreants targeted the BJP party office in North Srirampur Gram Panchayat, stealing equipment, vandalizing the premises, and setting it on fire.

Political-tension-Rajnagar-TripuraBadal Shil, a CPIM leader of the Chottakhola area in Rajnagar, sustained critical injuries after alleged BJP-backed goons assaulted him on Friday. Shil was referred to the GB Hospital where he breathed his last on Saturday afternoon. Following his death, CPIM supporters held condolence and protest rallies at different places. In protest against alleged attacks on Shil, Left Front Tripura unit call a 12-hour Bandh on Sunday.

Meantime, as the reports Shil’s death reached Rajnagar yesterday, resentment was brewing among the CPIM activists. Later, miscreants, allegedly CPIM activists got involved in vandalism and set a BJP office in Srirampur ablaze last night. This triggered panic and tension among the locals.

In response to the incident, Rajnagar MLA Swapna Majumdar, Mandal president Ranjit Sarkar, and other party leaders visited the site early this morning. Mandal president Sarkar condemned the attack, calling it a heinous act intended to incite unrest ahead of the panchayat elections. He accused CPIM miscreants of orchestrating such incidents under the cover of darkness to destabilize the area.

Sarkar urged the administration to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. "We demand a detailed inquiry to identify and punish those responsible for this deplorable act," he stated. The incident highlights the rising tensions and volatility in the area as the panchayat elections approach.
