Tripura News: Riding on CM's Duck Rearing project, 1000 SC women earning sustainable income

In an attempt to ensure sustainable income for rural women, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched a dream project, ‘Backyard Duck Rearing’ at iconic Rudrasagar Lake in Sepahijala a year ago. The initiative has turned to be a success as it is the major source of income for around 1000 women belonging to SC community who are residing around the Rudrasagar.

Duck-rearing-Tripura-eggDeb tweeted that the production of eggs had increased significantly in the Rudrasagar area within one year after launching the project as a pilot project and 1000 female beneficiaries from SC community were now receiving income of Rs. 40,000 per year.

“30 fold increase in egg production in the Rudrasagar area within a year of the launch of the pilot project on "Backyard Duck Rearing". This project is ensuring Rs 40K/annum income to 1,000 female SC beneficiaries, which shall increase to Rs 51K/annum in the coming months,” Deb tweeted.

In a separate tweet, the Chief Minister mentioned that over 48,000 ducklings were distributed among the women around the Rudrasagar wetland against the target to release 50,000 ducklings by October 2021. He conveyed best wishes to all the concerned authorities for this achievement towards building Atmanirbhar Tripura.

Under the scheme, each beneficiary gets 50 ducklings along with required logistics and financial support from the Animal Resource Development and SC Welfare departments.

Meanwhile, an official report also said the ducklings, distributed in the first phase and in the second phase up to April, 2021, already started laying eggs. At present, egg production in the project area is around 8,500 to 9,000 per day and each egg is sold at Rs 12 thus increasing the income of beneficiaries through selling of eggs.
