Tripura News: Special Police Officer goes missing in Ampinagar

In a disconcerting turn of events, a Special Police Officer (SPO), Ovaram Reang, aged 46, mysteriously disappeared in Ampi Nagar in Tripura on Saturday. Despite relentless efforts by local police personnel, Ovaram Reang remains untraceable till the report filing, leaving the community in a state of unease.

According to reports, The SPO personnel, accompanied by his wife, had set out for his jhum cultivation early in the morning. After finishing their day’s work in the Jhum field, while his wife returned home, Ovaram Reang chose to linger near a small rivulet in the area, swollen with recent rainwater.

The alarm was raised when a local resident reported spotting a body floating in the rivulet. The local police were immediately alerted and a search operation was launched. Even as the rivulet is choked with rainwater and debris, the police combed the area thoroughly but found no trace of the missing SPO till evening.

Ovaram Reang’s family confirmed his disappearance, adding to the growing concern among the locals. Speculations are rife, with some suggesting that Reang, known to be physically weak, might have accidentally fallen into the water stream and been swept away.

Sub-Inspector Bikram Debbarma, leading the investigation, expressed his determination to uncover the truth. “We have not yet found his body, but the search and investigation will resume again tomorrow,” he assured.

As the sun sets on Ampi Nagar, the mystery of Reang’s disappearance deepens. The community awaits answers, hoping for his safe return, while the police prepare to renew their search at dawn.
