Buoyed after victory in Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Polls, TIPRA Motha is planning to extend its influence in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas and started planning to win 20 Assembly Seat reserved for Scheduled Caste in next Assembly Polls. Planning and preparations to this end are in full gear, TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said in Agartala on Wednesday.
In fact, after the TTAADC Polls, the political scenario of Tripura changed drastically. Congress is yet to become a force to reckon with. BJP’s ally IPFT (an Indigenous regional party) drew a blank in TTAADC,- and after that, the party is steadily losing its supporters, leaders, even one MLA recently resigned from the Party and Assembly post. The main opposition, CPM was defeated in three-tier Panchayat Polls and washed out from the TTAADC area as the party failed to win in any seats in the TTAADC Polls.
At this point, TIPRA Motha seems to be emerging as a major political force against BJP.
Earlier, senior Party leader, Dinesh Debbarma said that a get-together of party sympathizers living in Agartala was arranged as an initial step to form the Agartala City Committee – the Committee would be formed later. The objective of this is to focus on ‘Greater Tipra Land’, until our demand is fulfilled, we will continue our struggle, Dinesh Debbarma said.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said we are talking about Greater Tipra Land – and it is impossible without including Agartala, Krishnanagar, Ujjayanata Palace, Ramnagar, Nandan Nagar etc. So long, regional parties were Khumulwng based, they did not count Agartala. In this connection Debbarman said, we are planning to fight in AMC Polls. Moreover, we are working hard to ensure victory in the 20 ST Assembly seats in the next Assembly polls.
Debbarman also criticized the Government for changing the names of several places, like Astabol which were bearing the tradition of the Royal era of Tripura.
“We will fight to protect our identity and existence. We will fight to preserve the indigenous traditions – and we need a solid base in Agartala to achieve Greater Tipra Land. He, however, said that Motha will not fight against any community.
