Conflicts between BJP and TIPRA Motha supporters over catching fish from a pond of a Panchayat sparked tension and panic at Banbazar ADC Village of Asharambari in Khowai on Sunday.
However, Police intervened and banned catching fish from all the five ponds of the Panchayat without permission from the Police.
After TIPRA Motha won the ADC Polls, troubles seem to be never ending as supporters of Motha often are confronting either BJP or IPFT. Since the results were out, Motha supporters started to influence implementation of Welfare schemes in different Village Committees.
This triggered heated altercation and clashes. Ultimately, common people are suffering as in most of the ADC areas, developmental works have been affected due to constant confrontation.
This time Banbazar village witnessed tensed moments as both BJP and Mothat supporters came face-to-face over catching fish from the pond owned by the Panchayat.
Today, BJP supporters gathered at one of the five Panchayat-owned ponds to catch fish. However, the Motha supporters prevented them. As supporters of both the parties remained defiant and continued argument, tension built up.
Meanwhile after getting information about the prevailing situation, Police rushed to the spot before things turned ugly and brought the situation under control. After a discussion with the supporters of both the parties, Police slapped a ban on fishing activities in the ponds without permission from Police to avert further confrontations.
It is learned people would catch fish from the ponds randomly and some of them even would sell fish in markets. After the chaos and tension, ban on fishing has put supporters of both the parties in a fix, local sources commented.
