After the Leftists, the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress on Tuesday slammed the BJP-led Tripura government over alleged ‘flouting’ of Covid norms and blamed Tripura for play a discriminating role against the Opposition to favour the ruling Party.

Notably, On Monday last, CPM leaders of Tripura unit also raised similar allegations against the ruling party and Police.

However, Pradesh Youth Congress highlighted specific instances of Covid norm ‘violation’ by ruling party leaders and Ministers.

Speaking to media, Sadar District YC president Anirban Saha said Education and Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath held a gathering of 5000 people in his constituency and he made statement regarding the gathering without wearing a mask.

“This was a clear violation of Covid Norms. But Police present there were a mute spectator as they did not intervene. However, if it is Congress, Police will swing into action even for a much smaller gathering. This attitude of Police is condemnable”, Saha said.

Saha also said Police are also slapping fines on common people for flouting Covid norms – but no action is being taken against any of ruling party leaders even as ruling party is holding programmes across the State regularly.

Condemning the ‘partial attitude’ of the Police a three member YC delegation met OC of West PS Jayanta Malakar over a deputation and demanded to allow Congress to conduct its political programmes and gatherings like that of ruling BJP party and its government.

Anirban Saha alleged, “Police acting on the behest of the BJP government in the state is throttling the voice of opposition by restricting them from holding party programmes and gatherings in the name of Corona Curfew whereas the BJP is constantly violating the norms of Covid norms and conducting programmes but Police were playing like a mute spectator.

“At present, the Youth Congress is not being allowed to carry out any movement or party gatherings during the corona curfew in the state. But almost every day in different parts of the state, the ruling party is holding meetings and processions flouting Covid norms,” he said.

Referring to instances of Ratan Lal Nath and other saffron party leaders, Saha questioned, “Why the rule of law be imposed only for the opposition and not for the ruling BJP party and Ministers amid this corona curfew?”

Saha also threatened to go for a massive agitation in case Police did not change the stance.
