Tripura Police Constable Arrested for alleged Involvement in Drug Trade

In a shocking revelation, a constable of the Tripura police, entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the public, has been implicated in the drug trade.

Santosh Shil, a constable stationed at Damchara police station in the North Tripura District, stands accused of amassing wealth through illegal activities, betraying the very government he was sworn to serve.

Santosh Shil’s nefarious activities came to light when a man was arrested near Geeta Bhavan in Nayapara, Dharmanagar, in possession of Yaba tablets, a Pulsar bike, and a Thar vehicle recently.

During the investigation, the name of Constable Shil surfaced. It was revealed that he had been involved in the drug trade for years, leading to a lifestyle far beyond the means of his legitimate income, including owning several Thar vehicles.

Police Superintendent of the North Tripura District, Bhanupada Chakraborty confirmed the arrest.

The SP told the media that while one suspect was apprehended, another managed to escape - but he assured that the escaped person would soon be captured.

Three days ago, Superintendent Chakraborty hinted at upcoming significant news regarding the case. This hint materialized when it was discovered that the Thar vehicle’s owner was none other than the wife of Constable Shil.

Following this information, an intensive police investigation ensued, culminating in Shil’s arrest on Thursday night.

Police Superintendent Bhanupada Chakraborty immediately ordered the constable’s temporary suspension.

This arrest exposed a disturbing instance within the state police, where police personnel sworn to uphold the law engage in criminal activities.

Earlier, there were apprehension about involvement of police personnel in drug smuggling - but the arrest of Santosh Shil calls for action to ensure no one more in the police force is involved in drug smuggling.

Superintendent Chakraborty’s decisive action demonstrated that no one is above the law, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to a drug-free Tripura.
