The 17th National Grappling (Wrestling) Competition witnessed a stellar performance by the Tripura team, securing both a gold and a silver medal on the first day of the event. The competition, organized by the Grappling Federation of India, saw participation from nearly 650 athletes from across the country.
In the No-Gi Grappling Under 60 category, Shyamal Chandra Acharya, who serves in the Tripura Police, clinched the gold medal in the 84 kg weight category. His outstanding performance was a highlight of the day.
Meanwhile, in the Above 20 category, Shibam Acharya earned a silver medal in the 100 kg weight category, adding to Tripura’s medal tally.
Tripura Grappling (Wrestling) team coach, Uttam Acharya, shared the news with the media, expressing pride in his team’s achievements.
The competition, which commenced on Saturday, was attended by several notable figures. The chief guest, Sports Director R.P. Garg, along with Grappling Federation of India Director Balvinder Singh, Seema Rajput, Pradeep Kataria, Noor Alam Sarkar, International Judges Multan Singh and Sanjay Pawar, Partha Sarathi Sarkar, Guljinder Singh, Navin Rayal, and Subodh Yadav, were present to encourage the participants.
Players from 19 states of India are participating in this National Grappling (Wrestling) competition.
