Tension and panic scene was witnessed at the Belbari community hall in Takarjala under Sepahijala District of Tripura after a clash erupted between supporters of the Opposition TIPRA Motha Party and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's youth wing, Yuba Morcha on Wednesday. The clash left at least six individuals injured today.
The Youth wing of the BJP held the TIPRA Motha Party supporters responsible for violence. There was no specific statement from the TIPRA Motha Party till the report was filed.
The violent confrontation started just prior to an organizational event hosted by Yuba Morcha today. The event was attended by several leaders of the Yuva Morcha including the general secretary of Sepahijala (South) district, Pritam Saha, secretary Saikat Saha, Takarjala Mandal president Rabindra Debbarma, and other members.
Local sources said, as the clock approached 11 am today and the meeting was on the brink of commencement, a sudden onslaught by alleged Tipra Motha Party supporters targeted the Yuba Morcha attendees.
The swift escalation turned the situation tense, with the BJP youth wing promptly protesting against the attack. Meantime, chaos and panic gripped the locals.
In a prompt action to the disturbing incident, authorities from the Radhapur police station were alerted. Soon security personnel arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The injured individuals were transported to the Jirania primary health center for medical attention.
The attack allegedly by the TIPRA Motha Party activists drew sharp criticism from ruling party leaders.
Expressing strong condemnation, the Sepahijala (South) district secretary of Yuba Morcha vehemently denounced the incident while addressing the media.
He demanded stringent action against the attackers and emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards any future attempts of this nature.
