Tripura: Youth sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for abducting, raping a minor

The Ld. Court of Special Judge, Fast Track Court, South Tripura in Belonia convicted and sentenced an accused person namely Pranajit Debnath (27)  S/O Rabindra Debnath, resident of Betaga Nath Para under Santirbazar in South Tripura to 20 years of imprisonment under POCSO Act and under other sections of the IPC for abducting and raping a minor girl.

 

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022 the Ld. Court of Special Court of Belonia Judge Ashutosh Pandey, convicted and sentenced accused person Pranajit Debnath (27) to suffer Rigorous Imprisonment for a period of 04 years and to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000/- only for the commission of an offence punishable U/S 366 of IPC, in default to payment of fine to suffer Rigorous imprisonment for 01 month.

 

He further sentenced Debnath to suffer Rigorous Imprisonment for a period of 20 years and to pay a fine of Rs. 15,000/- for the commission of an offence punishable U/S 4(2) of POCSO Act, in default to payment of fine to suffer Rigorous Imprisonment for 03 months.

 

Both the sentences shall run concurrently.

 

Pranjit Debnath (26) was convicted for forcefully abducting a minor girl of Class 10 student of Shantirbazar school from the road while she was on her way to school in 2019.

 

After failing to trace their daughter, the family members of the minor later lodged a kidnapping case at Santi Bazar police station, following which Police started an investigation into the case and finally with the help of investigating officer of Melagarh police station Sub-Inspector Seema Roy rescued the accused Pranjit Debnath and the minor girl and brought them to Santirbazar police station.

 

The case was originally registered as FIR No. 2019STB067, dated, 02/11/2019 U/S 363 IPC and the case was charge-sheeted U/S 366 IPC and 04 of POCSO Act, dated, 30/04/2020. After investigation of the case W/SI Sima Roy of Santirbazar Police Station had submitted a Charge Sheet in c/w the mentioned case which subsequently ended in conviction.
