Two-day 27th Conference of Police DG and IGs of Northeast starts in Agartala: Fight against drugs, Rohingya etc to be discussed, says Tripura CM
The two-day 27th Conference of Police DG and IGs of Northeast on law & order in the Northeast was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala on Tuesday (Nov 22).
“There will be discussions on the fight against drugs, the Rohingya movement, infiltration & other important issues during the conference. Under the leadership of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, the NE states are now holding a good position in terms of law & order”, Dr Saha said today.
Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Tripura Police DG Amitabh Ranjan along with Police DGs and IGs of Northeastern states, Central Intelligence Bureau, Narcotics Control Bureau and High-ranking officials of different levels were present in the conference.
The Chief Minister said, the drug is entering the Northeastern states through illegal ways. Drugs from different states and countries are also entering Tripura. The central government is working with Zero Tolerance Policy against drugs.
Tripura is also continuing its drive against drugs along with all the states of the Northeast. The Chief Minister said the North-eastern states will take up certain active plans and steps against drug dealing in the conference.
Alcohol-related issues, terrorism and illegal infiltration will also be discussed in the conference.
The Chief Minister said, there has been huge improvement in the law & order in the Northeast. There is no longer the black chapter of terrorism in the Northeast. He said fencing is almost complete in border areas of the state. To complete fencing in the remaining areas, regular communication is being done with the Bangladesh government.
Dr Saha said, the central government is working for the development of the Northeast under the Act East Policy. The Northeastern states are at present jointly working together towards development.
He said, the Northeast is being seen as the Ashtalakhsmi. This has been possible with the positive outlook of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, this kind of conference has been organized after a long period of time, which is good news for the citizens of the state. The Chief Minister hoped for the overall success of the conference.
