Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy : Tripura boys take command against Mizoram

Tripura boys have gained a solid advantage over Mizoram in the ongoing Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy cricket match, following a strong showing by their batsmen on the second day of the game. With 3 points already secured due to lead in the first innings, Tripura boys are now looking to add three more in the match on Friday by ensuring a straight victory.

After the bowlers led the charge on the first day, Tripura's batsmen stepped up on Day 2 to further cement their lead. At the end of the second day, Tripura had a commanding 200-run advantage, having posted 154 runs for 2 wickets in their second innings. This comes after they restricted Mizoram to just 141 runs in response to their own first innings total of 187.

Tripura vs Mizoram U-16 CricketShubhadip Pal and Kishan Sarkar played pivotal roles in Tripura's lead, taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively to dismantle Mizoram's batting line-up.

At the crease, Tripura's captain Rajdeep Debnath led from the front with an outstanding half-century, while opening batsman Maunak Saha contributed a solid 41 runs.

Mizoram's response to Tripura's first innings was disappointing, with only Chuna Kima offering significant resistance towards the end of the innings. Kima faced 85 balls, hitting 10 boundaries to remain unbeaten on 51 runs. Johan (39), Freddy (11), and Joel (11) also made some contributions but failed to build partnerships.

In Tripura’s second innings, openers Saha and Debnath made an excellent start, adding 98 runs for the first wicket. Saha faced 90 balls for his 41 runs, while Debnath played a commanding knock of 69 runs off 94 balls, which included 9 boundaries. Their efforts have put Tripura in a strong position heading into the final day.

Siddharth Debnath (22) and Sandipan Das (9) were at the crease when play ended, with Tripura holding a significant advantage going into Friday’s play.
