Vaccination for above 18 yrs to begin in Tripura from May 13

The much-awaited vaccination drive for the people 18-44 years age groups will commence from Thursday.

 

But priority will be given to rickshaw pullers, auto-rickshaw drivers, journalists, High Court staff, and employees of the Power, department, Food Corporation of India, Banks, and Air Traffic Controller.

 

Education minister and cabinet spokesman Ratanlal Nath announced this in a press conference at the civil secretariat on Wednesday.

 

He said, “The state has received 15,150 Covaxin doses. The drive to vaccinate the people in 18-44 years of age groups will commence from tomorrow itself.”

 

“In an urgent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, it has been decided that priority will be given to the rickshaw pullers, auto-rickshaw drivers, journalists, High Court staff, and employees of Power department, FCI, Banks and Air Traffic Controller in view of the important and mandatory duties being performed by them,” Nath told the media.

 

Giving details, Nath said, “Tripura has so far received 14,68,280 doses - among those, 14,21,280 doses have already been administered - the figure includes first and second shots.”

 

“The achievements (first dose) for healthcare staff, frontline workers and senior citizens (60+ years) are respectively 96.2 percent, 96.6 percent and 79.1 percent. Similarly, 83.2 percent healthcare staff, 82.7 percent frontline workers and 49 percent senior citizens have received the second dose,” Nath said.

 

Notably, Tripura ranks 2nd in the country in the vaccination drive.

  

Meanwhile, according the report, a total of 5388 samples were tested and 416 new Covid cases were found during last 24 hours. As many as 127 patients recovered and persons died. Recovery rate stands at 90.58 percent while Covid positivity rate hovering around 5.04 percent. Total number of active cases is 3204 while total death climbs up to 421 till May 12 as the report.
