Tripura won a stunning victory against a strong Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy cricket tournament - thanks to Mani Shankar Mura Sing's all-round performance.
Tripura's vice-captain Mani Shankar played a key role in the win, scoring a quickfire half-century with the bat and taking four wickets with the ball.
The match was played at the Kini Sports Arena in Bangalore on Sunday. Batting first, Tripura scored 288-5 in their 50 overs. However due to rain, the target for Mumbai was reset to 265 in 43 overs. Mumbai were all out for 211 runs and Tripura won by 43 runs in VJD method.
This is Tripura's third win in six matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy cricket tournament. They will play Puducherry in their final group match on December 5.
On Sunday morning, Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and invited Tripura to bat first. Tripura's batsmen took the attack to the Mumbai bowlers from the start.
Vikram Kumar Das got things going, but it was all-rounder Mani Shankar Mura Sing who finished the job. Mani Shankar smashed 55 off 26 balls, including five fours and three sixes.
Tripura's other batsmen also made valuable contributions. Vikram Kumar Das scored 70 off 78 balls, Sudip Chatterjee scored 60 off 78 balls, Ganesh Satish scored 50 off 69 balls, and Rajdeep Dey scored 18 off 12 balls.
Mumbai's best bowler was Tushar Deshpande, who took two wickets for 57 runs.
In reply, Mumbai were bowled out for 211 by Tripura's bowlers. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for Mumbai with 78 off 84 balls, but no other batsman could make a significant contribution.
Mani Shankar was the pick of the Tripura bowlers, taking four wickets for 23 runs. Parvez Sultan took three wickets for 26 runs, and Abhijit Sarkar took two wickets for 32 runs.
Tripura's acting secretary of the Tripura Cricket Association Jayanta Dey congratulated the team on their impressive victory.
