After winning in six out of 11 seats in high-voltage and closely contested elections on November 8 last, members of Forum for Development and Protection of Media Community (FDPMC) has sent a clear and loud message urging all the members to contribute and work for betterment of the media fraternity of the State. Chalking out immediate future plan, FDPMC members stressed on implementation of ‘Health Insurance’ scheme for media persons of the State.

“Let’s work together for welfare of media persons shunning all the differences among us. Let’s remain united and sit together to chalk out plans aiming to enrich media persons. Press Club is not a place for Politics and we appeal to every member of the media community to thwart any attempt to create a division among us”, convener of the Forum Sebak Bhattacharjee and Agartala Press club secretary-elect Pranab Sarkar said.

Tripura-News-MediaTerming this year’s Club election as ‘unprecedented’, Bhattacharjee said, around 99 per cent voters of the Agartala Press Club cast their votes. The election was fought among candidates nominated by two panels – FDPMC and ‘Save Agartala Press Club’ – in true democratic sense.

Notably, in closely fought electoral battle, veteran editor Subal Kumar Dey of ‘Save Agartala Press Club’ panel scrapped through beating veteran journalist Jayanta Bhattacharjee with a thin margin in the biennial poll. Dey was also held the post of the president of outgoing Managing Committee. Another veteran editor Arun Nath of ‘Save Agartala Press Club’ registered an easy win for the post of vice president.

Pranab Sarkar of  FDPMC emerged victorious for the post of secretary with a noticeable margin. Sarkar also held the same post in the outgoing Committee. Both Assistant General Secretary posts went to FDPMC and FDPMC supported independent candidates.  Tapan Majumder of the FDPMC won in treasurer post. In total, six seats out of 11 seats went to FDPMC giving the Forum thin majority over the ‘Save Agartala Press Club’.

“The newly elected Managing Committee will soon take steps to fulfill the promise of ‘Health Insurance’ for media persons of the State as announced. Besides, the Committee will start discussions on ‘Advertizing Policy’ of the State Government and other issues relating to the promises”, Bhattacharjee said.

Reiterating his commitment to remain by the side of media persons in every crisis, secretary-elect Pranab Sarkar sought co-operation from all the media persons.

He said, “Barring few incidences, the Club election was fought in true spirit and all of us are, once again, united. We will work to implement the promises and holistic development of media community. No malicious campaigning will be able to create a division among us”.

Both Sebak Bhattacharjee and Pranab Sarkar thanked all the contesting candidates, voters and concerned people for smooth holding of the election.
