January 04,2018: A Special CBI Court in Ranchi will today pronounce the quantum of punishment to RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and 15 others who were convicted by the court on 23rd of last month in a fodder scam case. The case relates to illegal withdrawal of more than 89 lakh rupees from Deoghar treasury between 1991 to 1994.
Lalu Prasad was the Chief Minister of the then undivided Bihar. The court was scheduled to announce the quantum of punishment yesterday but it was postponed due to death of an advocate belonging to Ranchi Bar Association.
Lalu Prasad and 15 others have been held guilty under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act by the Special CBI Court in the fodder scam case.
Special CBI Judge Shivpal Singh yesterday also issued Contempt of Court notices to RJD leaders – Raghuwansh Prasad Singh, Tejaswi Yadav and Shivanand Tiwari and Congress leader Manish Tiwari for their media remarks against conviction of Lalu, which amounted to scandalising the judgment.
The Court also issued notices to two witnesses – Sukhdev Singh and DP Ojha – for making them as accused in the case and two approvers – Shiv Kumar Patwari and Sailesh Kumar Singh – for removing their names from the list of approvers. (AIR NEWS)
