Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) – the tribal wing of CPI-M in Tripura – criticized the State Government for allegedly trying to create an ambience of fear among different sections of the society.
GMP State President Jiten Chowdhury came down heavily on the ruling alliance and slammed its governance system. Referring to recent attack on a media person by some miscreants, Chowdhury fired verbal salvo at the BJP-IPFT and alleged, “Under the BJP-IPFT coalition government, from the common man to bureaucrats, businessmen, contractors and even the fourth pillar of democracy, the media and its journalists are under threat”, Jiten Chowdhury said this at a press conference today at CPI-M sub-divisional office at Gandacherra in Dhalai district.
Continuing his tirade against the incumbent State Government, Chowdhury alleged voices of dissent have been suppressed in Tripura. “If anyone protests or voices his dissent, his voice is being silenced. Unleashing attacks or even by murdering the protesting person is not uncommon”, Chowdhury alleged.
However, despite ‘threat’, GMP leader Chowdhury urged the media to work for saving the democratic practices. “In order to protect democracy, the media workers should paint the real picture before the people of the state and draw the attention of the people to emerging issues”, he said.
Party’s State Committee Member Santosh Chakma, CPM Gandacherra sub-divisional Secretary Dhananjay Tripura and GMP sub-divisional Secretary Sumati Ranjan Chakma and others were present at the press conference.
