ProMASS: Agartala: Oct 5, 2016: While busy with nullifying external terrorists, Modi-led Govt has put emphasis on ensuring internal security, particularly by stepping up pressure on Maoists. As a result of sustained efforts, as many as 354 Maoists and their supporters surrendered in tribal Bastar region in Chhattisgarh on Oct 4. Sources claim, it is one of the biggest surrender in the history of the State.
Among the surrendered 57 were rebels and 297 were their supporters. Notably, 26 of the surrendered Maoists were carrying rewards on their head. It is learnt that Maoists surrendered 17 weapons. Surrendered Maoists will be provided necessary assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the State government, informed Bastar Police officials.
