ProMASS News bureau: Aug 23, 2016: Arson and chaos prevailed in Agartala today evening as tribal organization, IPFT hit street with demand for separate State and indulged in mindless violence. IPFT cadres torched several cars and damaged shops. Private properties of both Bengali and tribal communities were destroyed by ‘unruly’ IPFT supporters, said an agitated Sudhindra Debbarma at Colonnel Chowmuhani in Agartala. Despite huge provocation by IPFT, Police forces have shown remarkable restraint. More than 40 persons including women, Police personnel and Fire service personnel have received serious to moderate injuries, sources said. Administration has invoked Sec 144 indefinitely. Police sources inform, situation is under control now, though tension is running high. It is learnt that wise people of the State are working in respective areas to maintain calm and peace and determined to defeat the divisive forces that is keen to break communal harmony.
IPFT, especially its leaders have received severe condemnation from Facebook users. Both the Bengalis and tribal people have come forward and condemned the violence unleashed by the ‘goons’ of IPFT. Posting photos of viciousness of violence by IPFT supporters even to tribal people, a good number of people have demanded a total ban of IPFT which is trying to disturb communal harmony.
