In a crucial deposition of David Headley before Mumbai’s session court through video conference today, Headley admitted two prior failed attempts were made by the same 10 terrorists involved in 26/11 Mumbai attacks, who tried similar attempts in September and October 2008. Finally they succeeded on 26/11 and carried out terrorist attack in Mumbai. Headley was made an approver in the 26/11 attacks case which may further unravel the conspiracy behind the brazen terror strike. The deposition was initiated by establishing the background of Headley. Mahesh Jethmalani appeared as Counsel for Headley. Top Mumbai police and NIA officials alongside US Embassy officials were present in the court.
It is for the first time in the Indian legal history that a foreign terrorist is providing his evidences through video link. In a crucial disposition today Headley admitted changing his name from Dawood Gilani to David Headley to enter India and to conceal his identity. Headley visited India 8 times before 26/11 attacks and once after the attack. David Headley also admitted to giving false information in Visa application. David Headley named Raymond Sanders, a man who helped him with the visa process In a vital revelation Headley admitted to meeting Sajid Mir of LeT who was his main contact. Headley said that he changed his name in passport on instruction from Sajid Mir. While deposing Headley also admitted that he had a general idea on 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Reacting to the development, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said deposition of David Headley will lead India to logical conclusion of 26/11 case. Mr Rijiju told reporters in New Delhi that it is already known who is involved in the entire case and whereabouts of Headley’s working system.
