Recently, the Sanjhauli block was declared as Open Defecation Free block. In one of its kind, 7000 toilets were constructed in a record 55 days. Achieving this marvelous feat was not that easy, people of this small block even had to sell their jewellery and cattle to raise funds for construction of toilets.

The self-determination and awareness generated by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan prompted the people of Sanjhauli block to take initiative for construction of toilets in order to achieve Open Defecation Free status. Thanks to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, people of Sanjhauli block have taken the pledge of keeping their homes, surrounding and villages neat and clean. They have made this a mass movement. Now there is complete ban on Open Defecation in Sanjhauli block and if someone is caught doing so, the person is penalized. (Source: DD News)
