West Bengal Finance Minister, Amit Mitra today presented the Vote-on-Account statement for the year 2016-17 in the State Assembly. The statement amounting to Rs. 57, 905 crore has been proposed for the first four months of the fiscal. Mr. Mitra said that the proposed allocation under the Planning head in the Vote-on-Account for the period is higher by 16.96 per cent compared to the last year.
A Left Front delegation today met the West Bengal CEO Sunil Kr Gupta and submitted a complaint against transferring a senior IAS officer, Nandini Chakraborty from the post of Commissioner, Presidency range to the state Bio-Technology department as Secretary.
The delegation led by CPI-M leader, Robin Deb said, Ms. Chakraborty known to be a forthright officer was ousted from the commissionership by the Mamata government on 23rd February last because she was asked to monitor performance of six south Bengal DMs during the coming Assembly polls in the state. This was her second transfer in last six months and fifth in the last five years, he said.
The Left delegation also complained to the Election Commission on the prevailing law-and-order situation in Bengal referring to the adverse comments made by a senior justice of Calcutta High court made during a hearing on 23rd February and the recent police attack on the students of Burdwan University besides continued attack on CPI-M workers in Paschim Midnapore district, among other issues.
