ProMASS News Bureau: Aug 30, 2016: Left and other trade Unions have rejected government’s announcement on hike in daily wages of unskilled non-agricultural workers and refused to call off their proposed strike on Friday. General Secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Tapan Sen said, no major demands have been accepted and announcement on daily wages is only status quo. Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) also said it will join the strike.
However, the RSS affiliated, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh(BMS), has decided not to participate in the proposed strike. BMS General Secretary Virjesh Upadhyay said they will not join the strike as government has accepted maximum of their demands. He said, the Centre has taken a good initiative by revising the minimum wages after 11 years as well as giving assurance to look into the social security benefit to the unorganised sector workers like Anganwadi. Earlier, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced a hike in minimum wages for unskilled non-farm workers of the central government to 350 rupees a day, from the current 246 rupees.
