July 24, 2017: President Pranab Mukherjee will address the nation this evening before demitting office. The address will be broadcast from 7:30 PM on the national network of All India Radio and telecast over all channels of Doordarshan in English, followed by the Hindi version. It will be followed by the broadcast in regional languages by regional channels of Doordarshan.
Mr Mukherjee is demitting office after completion of his five-year term. In his farewell address last evening, Mr Mukherjee said, Parliament stands for debate, discussion and dissent adding that disruption hurts opposition more than the government. He hailed the passage of Goods and Services Tax as a shining example of cooperative federalism. The outgoing President said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is driving transformational changes with passion and energy.
Mr Ram Nath Kovind will take over as the country’s 14th President tomorrow. He will be administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India Justice JS Khehar at a special function in the Central Hall of Parliament.
