Amid Kailashahar flood concern, New Unakoti District Magistrate Tamal Majumdar takes swift action after assuming the charge, inspecting shelter houses for flood affected people and Manu River embankments amid flood concerns on June 2, 2025. With water level in Manu River stabilizing and no more rain till afternoon on June 2, Kailashahar is returning to normalcy.

Kailashahar (Tripura), June 2: As flood fears gripped Kailasahar, Tamal Majumdar assumed office as the new District Magistrate of Unakoti district of Tripura on Monday (June 2). Wasting no time in addressing the crisis, the new DM immediately took up the present situation in Kailashahar under the Unakoti District after recent incessant rainfall. Many people were forced to take shelter in Government run relief centres as their houses were inundated.

Local sources said, with the region on edge due to recent heavy rainfall, Majumdar’s first day was marked by swift action and hands-on leadership.

Shortly after taking charge, Tamal Majumdar convened an administrative meeting in the District Magistrate’s conference hall to evaluate the flood situation.

By 5:15 pm after the meeting, the DM led a team to inspect shelter houses across Kailasahar, ensuring displaced residents received adequate support.

Accompanying him were Kailasahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Rani Debroy, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pradeep Sarkar, Additional District Magistrate L. Darlong, DCM Moti Ranjan Debbarma, and other officials.

The team’s first stop was the Netaji English Medium Higher Secondary School, where the DM engaged with affected residents, verifying the timely distribution of food and medical supplies.

Further visits to shelter houses at Gobindapur Higher Basic School and Ramkrishna Shiksha Pratisthan underscored his commitment to assessing ground realities.

The delegation also inspected the Manu River’s water levels at Shrirampur and reviewed ongoing embankment repairs at Tapas Palli in Gobindapur

Notably, the repair and renovation of the embankment of the Manu River is a critical infrastructure issue as far as flooding in Kailashahar is concerned.

Chapala Rani Debroy lauded Tamal Majumdar’s proactive approach, noting, “His immediate focus on the people of Kailasahar, personally visiting shelters on his first day, reflects true dedication.”

Relief continues even as 80% of homes submerged by recent downpours are now free of water.

With the Manu River’s levels stabilizing and no rainfall reported from Monday morning through the afternoon, Kailasahar is steadily returning to normalcy.
