Banaras Hindu University (BHU) turned 100 years today. Freedom fighter Pt Madan Mohan Malviya founded this important seat of higher education in 1916. BHU played an important role in the freedom movement of India. An official release said, University is organising a centenary seminar on higher education and contribution of BHU where Supreme Court Judge Pinaki Chandra Ghosh will be the Chief Guest. Several other programmes are being organized to mark the occasion. BHU has about 140 departments besides one IIT and an Institute of Medical Sciences. More than 15,000 students from different parts of country are presently studying in the university.
