Agartala, April 06, 2020: One woman in Tripura was tested positive for coronavirus today. A resident of Gakulnagar in Udaipur under Gomati district, the 35-year old woman became the first Coronavirus positive case in Tripura. With this woman tested positive, total tally in North East reached 31.

According to sources, the woman reached Agartala on March 19 in Tripurasundari Express. Her co-passengers in S4 and S5 are requested to contact nearest healthcare centre immediately.

However, there is no reason to panic as State has already taken steps to tackle any eventuality, Health department sources said. “Her condition is stable, at present”, said State Surveillance Officer Dr Deep Kumar Debbarma.

Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb confirmed this in a tweet message and said, “First COVID19 positive case detected at Tripura. The patient is from Udaipur. Do not Panic, we are taking proper care of the patient. Stay Home Stay Safe.”

The woman, who originally hails from Udaipur, on March 18 last had come from Assam. According to her travel history- she travelled from Guwahati to Agartala by train, confirmed State Surveillance Officer Dr. Deep Kumar Debbarma.  He said the condition of the patient was stable.

“We have set the system into full gear and by tomorrow morning all the people who had come in contact with her would be identified and quarantined. Her family members were already quarantined”, said Dr. Debbarma

“We are collecting all other inputs in connection with her travel and also on the persons accompanied her besides the people who had come in contact with her during her stay in her home also about other patients in the private chamber of a doctor in Udaipur where she had first gone for check up ,” Dr. Debbarma said in a press conference at AGMC this evening.

In the meantime, the patient was duly quarantined and all necessary measures were taken, said concerned government officials.

It is to be mentioned here that two from the state had tested positive for the virus in Rajasthan’s Bikaner. They were both attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi held in March last. In addition, state disease surveillance officer Dr Deep Debbarma has confirmed that 5 more people having travel history to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation tested positive in different parts of the country.

“A four member group tested positive at Shamali area of Uttar Pradesh, who went there after participating in the religious congregation of Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz. One more tested positive at Delhi, taking the total toll of corona infected people from Tripura to 8. All of them are under treatment”, said Debbarma.
