ProMASS: Dec 26, 2016: Christmas was celebrated across the North East along with the rest of the country yesterday with fervour and joy. Churches, market places, offices and buildings were wonderfully decorated. People offered prayers in the churches. Midnight services in churches in various places of Meghalaya heralded the advent of birth of Jesus Christ as tourists and locals joined in the celebration. Governor V Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma greeted the people on the occasion, reminding them that Jesus taught the value of love, kindness and compassion. State capital Shillong was decorated for Christmas. Special programmes including Christmas carols were organised. Tourists visited this hill state to participate during Christmas celebrations and also to have a taste of the winter season.
