Agartala, August 30, 2019: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tabled Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) Bill, 2019 in State Assembly on the first day of monsoon season today. Despite protests and brief walkout by the Opposition Party, CPIM, the ESMA Bill was passed by a voice vote in the House.
According to the ESMA Bill any ‘government or private services or class of services which are considered essential for security , public safety , maintenance of public order, health or sanitation or maintenance of supplies or services necessary for the life of the community’ will come under the purview of the Act.
Earlier, the House took obituary references and paid tributes to nine political leaders and Ministers.
