December 30, 2017: In quest of a ray of hope, a section of terminated 10323 teachers held a meeting in Agartala today. Notably, 10,323 Post-Graduate, Graduate and Primary Teachers will face termination of service on December 31, 2017. As per the order of Supreme Court, the 10323 teachers will then start a six-month journey as ad-hoc teachers from New Year.
In the meeting axed teachers discussed about several avenues and later decided to go to New Delhi and meet Union Minister for Human Resources Development Department Prakash Javedkar with certain demands.
Pradip Banik who attended the meeting on Saturday said, “A four-member delegation of the 10,323 teachers along with four BJP leaders- national general secretary Ram Madhav, state president Biplab Kumar Deb, NEDA chairman and Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and MLA Sudip Roy Barman will meet the MHRD on January 2 next.”
He said, “The delegates will approach the MHRD to secure the future of terminated teachers through amendment of Constitution. The delegates, if required, will also try to meet the President. The decision has been taken in the sitting on Saturday.”
“We lost the jobs due to state government’s fault. It was state government’s responsibility to secure our future. But, the state government did nothing. In such situation, opposition party’s assurance to secure our future appeared to be significant. And, we believe, the opposition will surely do something for us,” he added.
The state government has served termination and appointment (ad-hoc) letters to the teachers facing axe although some of them already qualified TET and got job.
At the end of today’s meeting, the agitating teachers burnt the termination letters to express their anger on state government.
