October 24, 2017: The State Government is in a sticky position today as Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of the petition challenging the appointment of 12,000 non teaching staffs till January, 2018.
Reacting on the decision of Apex Court on recruitment in 12000 posts, Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty attempted to stay positive. He said, “The Supreme Court mentioned that the state government’s decision to recruit 12,000 non-teaching staff was not contempt of the Apex court order. The State has the authority to go ahead with the recruitment.”
However the State Government cannot proceed with the recruitment of 12000 non teaching staffs due to stay order of the Apex Court, he added.
Chakraborty further said, “The 10,323 government teachers who are to lose jobs after December 31 due to the Apex Court verdict would be eligible for the newly-created 12,000 posts.”
He also said, “12000 posts of non teaching staffs will not fall under purview of Right to Education Act and NCTE guidelines as those are not teaching posts and the State Government has full authority of appointment under the posts.”
