November 07, 2017: Launching a blistering attack on Modi-led Government, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar criticize GST and demonetization. He claimed prices of essential goods including medicines soared up after GST came into force. “GST system has put common people under severe financial distress, moreover the Government implemented GST without necessary preparation throwing the entire economy in disarray”, he commented today in Agartala. Manik Sarkar was speaking at a programme organized by CPIM to commemorate centenary year celebration of the ‘Great November Revolution’ in Agartala. Elaborately discussing significance of ‘November Rovolution”, he said, even though erstwhile Soviet Union collapsed, no one could deny the upliftment of Soviet society and economy from a position of despair to flourishing prosperity.

Focusing on impact of GST, Sarkar mentioned about increase in prices of medicines and plight of common people. “While common people are facing excess burden under GST system, middle- and small-scale industries including cottage and agro-based industries are in doldrums after GST came into effect”, he said. He also denounced demonetization drive of the Modi-led Government.

Speaking on governance, Sarkar blasted at Modi-Government and slammed for trying to ‘destabilize’ the federal structure of the country by switching over to a ‘presidential form’ of Government. Chief Minister referred to formation of NITI Aayog abolishing Planning Commission. He reasoned, “With the end of Planning Commission, the interaction and process of consultation between the Centre and States have been cut-off. Lack of consultation between Centre and State is against the concept of federal structure”. Referring to fund curtailment, he alleged, NITI Aayog is depriving the States by slashing central welfare funds and stalling implementation of schemes like MNREGA.

A large number of ruling party supporters gathered at Rabindra Bhavan today since afternoon. “The attendance will boost Party’s confidence and will send a stern massage to Opposition parties aspiring to oust CPIM from power in ensuing State Assembly Polls”, opined a group of youths.

Among others, CPIM Central Committee member Gautam Das, MP Sankar Prasad Dutta and other leaders were in the dais and addressed the gathering hailing the spirit of “Great November Revolution”.
