BJP party President Amit Shah today raked up the issue of infiltration of Bangladeshis in Assam and accused the ruling Congress of using the illegal migrants as its vote bank. Addressing an election rally at Dhakuakhana in poll bound Assam, Mr Shah said if BJP forms government in the state, it will seal the Bangladesh border and no infiltrator will be able to step in.
Congress leader and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi addressed public meeting at Bokajan and engaged with people of the area. Mr Gogoi said the Prime Minister had targeted his age and people of Assam will give a fitting answer to that. He claimed that Congress government has ushered in development and prosperity in the state.
The Election Commission has stepped up drive for fair polls in the state. The EC’s Expenditure Observer for Kamrup Metropolitan Election District, Umashankar Kushwaha interacted with officials of the flying squad teams and static surveillance team yesterday. He urged them to ensure that the EC’s guidelines on poll expenditure are adhered to.
A voter awareness exhibition has also been launched in Guwahati by the District Election Officer today. Meanwhile, All India United Democratic Front, has unveiled its vision document for the polls. The party laid stress on ending regional disparity and unemployment in the state. The first phase of polling will be held on 4th of April. A total of 539 candidates are contesting in this phase where polling will be held for 65 seats.
