With upcoming by-election scheduled to be held on Nov 19, 2016 in two assembly constituencies in Tripura, Political temperature is yet to start rising. In the forthcoming by-poll, multi-cornered fight is expected as per the prevailing situation. After ruling Party CPI-M declared its candidates, BJP and Congress too followed the suit and Trinamool Congress, initially mooted poll alliance with BJP but snubbed is also in fray.
The pre-poll situation indicates that Opposition Parties are not expecting victory but vying for securing 2nd position. “From the Opposition Parties’ point of view, which Party secures 2nd maximum votes is important”, Political observers stated and added, “It is highly unlikely that CPI-M candidates will taste defeat in any of the two assembly constituencies where polls will be held”. Both the constituencies were held by CPI-M.
The anti-incumbency factor is not strong enough to uproot CPI-M, at least in these by-polls. And Opposition Parties have so far failed to launch any sustained effective campaign against CPI-M, opined a veteran political analyst. “Apart from certain short-lived public grievances, the Opposition parties have so far unable to raise any concrete Political issue and put pressure on CPI-M, experts pointed out. Congress Party is in total shambles while Trinamool Congress has apparently become stronger not because of any sustained political agitations but because of joining of MLAs from Congress Party. On the other hand, BJP is also unable to attract noticeable public support for lack of political agenda against CPI-M barring nepotism etc.
Political experts said, considering the ground realities there will be tough fight among the opposition parties to capture 2nd position while CPI-M is all set to emerge as winner.
