Mar 07, 2017: In Assam, tension prevails at Silapathar in Dhemaji district when some members of an organization damaged office of All Assam Students Union yesterday. Nine persons have been arrested in this connection. Army has been kept in stand-by for flag march. Heavy security deployment has been made to maintain law and order. Principal Secretary of Home department said that there was an incident of stone pelting during a procession and his office was damaged.
He said that security forces have been alerted. The procession was taken out demanding citizenship to Hindu Bengali people from Bangladesh. Several organizations have condemned the incident. Asom Gana Parishad, the coalition partner of ruling BJP, too condemned the situation. Senior leaders of All Assam Students Union demanded action against those involved in the incident. (AIR NEWS)
