June 9, 2017: Worries for Science teachers appear to come to an end after Tripura High Court in a judgment today upheld the jobs of 962 Science teachers who were recruited in 2012. Justice Subhasish Talapatra of High Court of Tripura today upheld the jobs of 962 teachers after hearing a case filed by 14 petitioners. However, Justice Talapatra directed the State Government to provide jobs to 10 out of 14 petitioners within next six months and added if appointment in the education department is not possible, they may be appointed in some other departments. Detailed order to this end will be issued shortly, High Court sources said.
“There were palpable tension among the Science teachers and a sense of mental insecurity gripped the teachers across the State”, said one the 962 teachers today in a relaxed tone.
However, it is also important that the State Government, unlike 10323 teachers’ case, reacts positively and obey the Order properly. Apprehension about how State Government will act, is obvious as people are engrossed in discussion in most the street Adda today evening. Almost everyone is looking for an answer – What the Government will do?
Now it remains to be observed how the State Government reacts to the Order spelt out by the Justice. It may be noted here, during early stage of a case relating to 10323 teachers’ recruitment, Justice B K Sharma of Gauhati High Court passed almost a similar order and asked the State Government to constitute a committee to look into the grievances of the petitioners and provide jobs to the petitioners, if they are eligible. However, for some inexplicable reasons, the State Government did not comply with the order and all the chaos followed thereafter.
“It is expected that good senses will prevail and the State Government should comply with the Order. Government should take lesson from 10323 teachers’ case – had the Government comply with Gauhati High Court Order, neither the Government nor the 10323 teachers would land up in a precarious situation now”, said a retired teacher and added realistic flexibility is expected from the Government so that no complications in future arise.
