July 29,2017: In Nagaland, Voting for the by-Election to Northern Angami-I Assembly constituency of Kohima district is going on peacefully. Voting for the by-election began at 7 am amidst tight security.
Polling officials informed that 55 per cent of the voters have cast their votes till 1 PM. Polling is being held at 25 polling stations. 17 polling stations out of the 25 have been categorized as critical stations.
Altogether seven companies of security personnel, including three Central Para Military Forces have been deployed for the bypoll. About 25 Micro Observers from various central departments are also being deployed to oversee the conduct of polls.
The by-election is a straight contest between former chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu of NPF and Independent candidate Kekhrie Yhome. The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of Khriehu Liezietsu.
He resigned in May this year to pave the way for his father Dr. Liezietsu who took over the post of Chief Minister despite not being a member of the State Assembly. Altogether, 16,235 voters will exercise their franchise today.
Meanwhile, the State Government has granted a paid holiday to all employees in the area of the constituency, including those electors working outside the constituency in order to enable them to participate and exercise their franchise. All schools and shops also remained closed in view of the By-Election. (AIR NEWS)
