February 25, 2018: In Nagaland, campaigning for the State Legislative Assembly election ended Sunday evening. Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha has directed all District Election Administrations and Police Administrations to ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over. However, he said restriction will not be insisted upon the office bearer of the political party who is in-charge of the State.
Such office-bearer of the political party shall declare his place of stay in the State Headquarters and his movement shall remain confined normally between his party office and place of his stay. Restrictions on the conduct of any exit poll and publication and dissemination of result of such exit poll have also been imposed till 4:30 p.m. on 27th February.
Nagaland will go to poll on Tuesday. A total of 195 candidates, including five women are in the fray for 59 seats in the 60 member Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Former Chief Minister and former Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio has been declared uncontested. Counting will take place on 3rd March.
In Meghalaya, campaigning has come to an end Sunday evening. Polling will be held on Tuesday at 59 seats as polling at Williamnagar seat has been adjourned following the death of a candidate. The Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkonger said that polling parties with poll materials have already started their journey at far flung areas.
He said, vehicles and boats are pressed into service to carry poll personnel. He said, there are 67 all women polling booths in the state which will be managed by women staffs.
There are over 18 lakh voters in Meghalaya and interestingly women voters outnumbered men voters. On the other hand, out of total 370 candidates, 32 female candidates are in the fray. A total of 8 political parties have given tickets to female candidates in the assembly polls. (AIR News)
