“DESTINATION NE – 2016” fest to be held during 12-14 February in Delhi

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh held a Press Conference on ‘Destination North East, 2016’ in New Delhi on Feb 9.

Briefing the media, he said that the aim of Destination N-E is to bring the rest of India closer to North East India. He said that the North-East has certain speciality which is a great asset for the nation. Dr Jitendra Singh said that the contribution of the North East in academics, growth and revenue is very commendable. He said that the North East will play an important role in India’s Act East Policy. To Act East effectively on foreign policy, it is necessary to Act East within our borders, he added.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Destination North East is being held to showcase the richness of North-East to the rest of India. The next venues for Destination North East will be Mumbai and Bengaluru, followed by other parts of the country.  He said that each State of North-East India will be known by its distinct identity and for its uniqueness such as Mizoram as Bamboo State and Sikkim as Organic State. Dr. Jitendra Singh released flyers on ‘Destination North East’ which includes Business Summit schedule and cultural event schedule.

He said that the 3-day event will include theme specific Business Summit consisting of sectors like Tourism, Agriculture, Food Processing, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, IT, Handloom & Handicrafts, Livelihood, Micro-Finance and Start ups. He said that Destination North East will enable various Ministries to showcase their initiatives in North East India. The event will also have cultural programmes to showcase the rich culture and folk dances of North East India, he added.
