Prior to ensuing TTAADC Polls in Tripura, Congress managed to trigger split in regional party IPFT. Tipra Land was a dream sold to indigenous people by IPFT, said dissident activists

Agartala, March 15, 2020: As the elections of Tripura Tribal Areas autonomous District Councils (TTAADC) are knocking at door, regional tribal based IPFT suffered a blow – particularly in Southern part of the State today and Congress received a boost as several top district level leaders along with their supporters joined Congress in Agartala.

Notably, IPFT is alliance partner of ruling BJP in the State. However, IPFT fought last LS Poll alone and so far, there is no surety of alliance for upcoming TTAADC polls in the State.

Disgruntled IPFT activists

A group of IPFT leaders formally joined the Congress party citing failure of IPFT in fulfilling aspirations of the party workers. Tripura Pradesh Congress committee president Plijush Biswas welcomed the new comers in the party and claimed that this showed as to how the ruling alliance was failing to do justice to their workers.

Speaking to the media persons after the joining programme, the TPCC president said, “Joining of indigenous community people with the Congress after quitting  IPFT shows as to how the ruling alliance of BJP and IPFT failed to protect the interests of the indigenous community people. The ruling alliance has promised a lot before the polls, but in reality it even failed understand the pulse of the voters”.

These IPFT leaders claimed that they had joined Congress along with huge supporters of the South Tripura district. “This might prove beneficial for Congress to perform well in three ADC seats that fall under the district”, Sources in the party said and added that they had joined the party with more than 2000 voters though not much of them could make it to arrive in the Congress party office.

TTAADC Polls: Cong upbeat

The Congress President also maintained that they would surely perform well in the ensuing ADC polls. “The Congress party is gradually getting stronger in the interior pockets of the state and this will lead the party to win the ADC polls. All the block presidents have been directed to intensify party’s activities in the interior pockets to ensure the ruling CPIM cannot return to power” Biswas told reporters.

Jay Krishan Tripura, Assistant General Secretary of the IPFT who crossed over to the Congress today, has said, “We have worked for the IPFT for long seven years but never were recognized by the party. The demand of “Twipraland” has been placed as a dream for us and now the party top brass are happy with their ministerial berth enjoying all facilities. From now on, we are Congress workers and will religiously work for the party”. Notably, the leaders who joined the party today also include, Ahinta Tripura, Jatindra Chowdhury, Supriya Mohan Tripura and Maphurai Tripura.
