Agartala, July 29, 2019: He quit his job to fulfill his mom’s wish. He embarked on India Tour on his vintage Bajaj Chetak scooter along with his 70-year old mom. He is D Krishna Kumar of Mysore.
In an era when sending an elderly parent to ‘Old Age’ homes has become a matter of serious social decadence, D Krishna Kumar (40) sets a unique and exemplary instance. He embarks on ‘India Tour’ along with her lonely septuagenarian mother – Churatna Devi – riding on decades old scooter. After travelling 42,195 KM, Kumar and his mother reached Dharmanagar in North Tripura on Sunday night last. Soon they will arrive in Agartala and later proceed to Matabari to offer puja to Maa Tripureswari.
“We hail from a joint family and my mother did not find any time to travel to any places, not even to temple located near her village. Four years ago, my father died and mom was feeling lonely. I decided to fulfill her dream and take her to India Tour”, D Kumar said after arriving in Dharmanagar today.
When people are running after jobs and career, D Kumar happily quit his lucrative marketing job with a private company to fulfill his mother’s wish. At the age of 21, he decided to remain unmarried.
In a prelude to his journey, Kumar said, “I re-assembled the Bajaj Chetak Scooter that my father gifted to me 20 years ago. Resembling was done mainly to relieve my 70-year old mother from travel fatigue. While, I ride on the scooter, I feel that my father is accompanying us. I quit my job on January 14, 2018 and two days after resignation, on January 16, 2018, we took off to India Tour”.
Kumar proudly said, during last one year six months long journey, my Chetak scooter never broke down and it is running smoothly. Shedding luxurious manner of travelling, mom-son duo are embarked on humble journey with simple diet and spending nights at temples, moths or dharmashala quietly. As Kumar and his mother reached Dharmanagar, one social activist arranged their lodging and boarding.
