Agartala, August 27, 2019: The High Court of Tripura today imposed a cost of Rs 10 lakh on Tripura State Pollution Control Board and Rs 1 lakh on each Brick Kilns of the state taking note of environmental safety.
The order was mandated by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh on a Public Interest Litigation- WP(C)/ PIL/17/2019, taken up by the Court on its own. The cost shall be paid within two weeks to the High Court Registry.
All the 350 brick kilns in the state were operational without obtaining environmental clearances. Last month, in the wake of an order passed by the High Court of Tripura, state government shut down all the 350 brick kilns in the state. The High Court prohibited the brick kilns from operating without environmental clearances.
