March 20, 2018: In a significant move, the Health Minister Sudip Roybarman today announced a series of steps aiming to rejuvenate the health sector in the State. Considering acute shortage of medical professionals, the State Government is contemplating to extend the retirement age of doctors from existing 60 years to 65 years.
People of the State are suffering from lack of specialist doctors. To combat this crisis, State Government has proposed to hire specialist and super-specialist doctors (Neurology, Nephrology and Cardiology) from outside States. Besides, infrastructure of all the Hospitals will be augmented and upgraded so that rural people can also avail improved medical services.
For quite a long time, patients complained about non-availability of doctors in Hospitals. The Health Minister Sudip Roybarman – while addressing a press conference today in Agartala – said that tight monitoring system would be installed and regular evolution would be done to encourage doctors to perform better.
The Minister also said that series action will be taken to improve health care system in GB Hospital. He said, “Modernization of GBP hospital’s emergency ward will be done along with change in the duty rosters. At least one specialist doctor from each of health wings along with PG students will be available for providing emergency services. The names and phone numbers of the doctors on duty will be put in display.”
Sudip Roybarman today held a day-long review meeting on health care system and came out with a plan to revamp and modernize the health sector. Speaking to media, Roybarman emphasized on improvement of existing facilities, augmenting facilities and strengthening overall health administration.
