Agartala, November 14, 2019 : Preparations for erecting India’s second highest statue of Lord Buddha at Nabincherra at Pecharthal are now in full swing. The proposed statue of 108 feet comes second to the Buddha statue at Sikkim.
Chief Secretary U Venkateswarlu along with all concerned departmental heads today visited the spot Trishitpuri Banvihar where the statue will come up.
The Chief Secretary also discussed the precarious conditions of the road that leads to the spot. He instructed the officials to immediately start repairing the roads.
Venkateswarlu said, all steps will be taken to make the spot as one of the most favoured tourist destination in the state for domestic as well as foreign travellers. Already several Buddhist monks and tourists from Sri Lanka, Myanmar , Thailand and Bangladesh have visited the Nabincherra.
Besides another spot in Pechartha- Andharcherra Buddha falls will also be developed as a tourist destination. Already a project for the development of the falls area with roads and sighting spots, lighting etc has been prepared.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb along with Toursim Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Social Welfare minister Santana Chakma and other senior officials including special secretary to Tourism Kiran Gitte visited the falls some months ago.
Officials here said Pecharthal is set to become an important tourist destination soon.
“When the Buddhist statue will come and when the falls area will be developed the tourist inflow will grow manifold. While only the statue is likely to attract a huge number of tourists from countries like Sri Lanka ,Japan, Thailand, Myanmar etc, inclusion of Unokoti and Jampui Hills in the circuit will add in the potential further”, said the official.
